In Vedic astrology the 1^st degree of the Zodiacal sign Aries begins from Ashwini Nakshatra. It is the 1^st of the 27 Nakshatra’s in the Zodiac and covers 0° to 13°20' of Aries. Ashwini is the first nakshatra in the constellation. It  falls in the category of Gandamoola nakshatra.

The Diety for Ashwini Nakshatra is Aswi or Aswini Kumar Twins, the physician of the gods. According to the puranas the two Aswini Kumaras were born to mother Sanga and father Ravi.
