Saturn is the outermost planet which can be seen by naked eyes. Transit Saturn is currently in Virgo. It is retrograde and hence weak in strength. It will turn direct from 30^th May 2010. It will remain in Virgo till the end of the year. Virgo sign is ruled by Mercury. In Vedic astrology Saturn is a friend of Mercury whereas Mercury is neutral to Saturn. This means that Saturn is comfortably placed in the sign Virgo and will not give negative result unless it is under malefic influence from other planets. It will give benefic / malefic results according to the house and sign that it represents in the birth chart.

During the course of the year all planets except Sun and Moon will turn retrograde and direct at some point of time. Saturn will be retrograde when it is 5 signs away from the Sun and will turn direct when it is 9 signs away from the Sun. By turning retrograde it means that it appears to travel backwards along its path in the sky. This is because of Earth’s placement in between Sun and Saturn and they have elliptical orbit around the Sun. Saturn takes approximately 29 ½ years to complete one cycle.
